Recruitment Tips

  • Tips at having a Successful Recruitment Experience

Always Be Yourself. There is nothing more important than being yourself during recruitment. Recruitment is a time to get to know the organizations and to choose the chapter that is the best fit for you. It is also a time for the chapters to get to know you so they can decide if they want to invite you to join their organization.

Attend Individual Recruitment Events. Individual chapters will have their own events around campus or the USF area. It is important to see how the individual chapters represent themselves outside of events with other fraternities. It will let you get to know the individual chapter more in depth, and really see if you connect with most of the me Visit as many Chapters as you can. Try to visit every chapter if they offer events. This will help you narrow down the chapters that you would like to visit further.

Evaluate each Chapter carefully. Each organization has a unique culture. Ask many questions to determine which chapters you would like to revisit. Try to narrow down the top 5-7 fraternities that best fit you and what you are looking for in an organization and keep these fraternities in mind.

Dry Recruitment. Alcohol is not allowed at any recruitment event or activity. USF and IFC policies stipulate that all events and activities associated with fraternity recruitment must be alcohol free. Violation of this rule is a serious infraction and the guilty chapter and/or the students involved are subject to severe disciplinary action by IFC, Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life and/or the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities.

Ask questions. Some useful questions you might want to ask during Recruitment are:

-How much emphasis does your chapter place on scholarship?
-What types of scholarship programs are offered by your chapter?
-What type of leadership opportunities are there?
-What types of community service does your fraternity take part in?
-What kind of social activities do you have each year?
-How involved is your chapter with the university and other student organizations?
-What is the time commitment for joining your fraternity?
-How will your fraternity help prepare me for graduation and life after college?
-How much will joining your fraternity cost?
-What is your new member membership education program like? What is its purpose?

Dress. Unless otherwise stated, there is no specific dress code for any recruitment event. Most prospective members dress casually.
